Nvidia Invests in Cloverleaf to Build Out US AI Data Center Capacity

Nvidia has taken a minority stake in privately held Cloverleaf Infrastructure as the chipmaker expands its push into the infrastructure needed to support the fast-growing artificial intelligence industry.
The companies announced the investment on Friday but did not disclose its financial terms.
The Wall Street Journal previously reported that Nvidia was expected to invest several hundred million dollars in Cloverleaf.
The deal will help Cloverleaf develop sites for AI data centers across the US while Nvidia will support infrastructure projects designed to power large-scale AI computing.
Nvidia Expands Beyond AI Chips
Cloverleaf works with utilities, energy providers and investors to secure electricity and other infrastructure required for data center projects. The company founded in 2024 said it has already delivered several gigawatt-scale projects across North America.
As AI models become larger and more widely used, access to power has become one of the industry's biggest challenges. Data centers require enormous amounts of electricity which makes suitable sites with reliable power increasingly valuable.
Under the partnership, Cloverleaf will use Nvidia's DSX platform to improve decisions around data center site selection, power availability, cooling systems and computing infrastructure.
The arrangement gives Nvidia a closer role in determining where and how future AI computing capacity is built.
Nvidia Deepens Infrastructure Strategy
The Cloverleaf investment is the latest example of Nvidia moving further into the infrastructure ecosystem surrounding its chips.
Just days earlier, Nvidia announced a $1.5 billion investment in SB Energy which is the SoftBank-owned data center developer. SB Energy is also developing a major data center project in Ohio for OpenAI.
Nvidia's strategy reflects the growing link between chip demand and data center capacity. More AI computing requires more advanced processors but those processors can only be deployed at scale when enough power, cooling and physical infrastructure are available.
For Nvidia, investing in companies that help solve those constraints could strengthen the wider market for its AI hardware.
The company is also becoming increasingly involved in financing and supporting infrastructure projects built around its technology. That approach could help speed up AI expansion across the US while giving Nvidia greater visibility into where future computing capacity will come online.
