Synopsis

The streaming service will invest more than $2 billion from 2027 to 2030, doubling local productions across five countries while expanding NBA coverage and securing Mexico’s national-team home matches.

Prime Video will invest more than $2 billion across Latin America between 2027 and 2030, marking one of its biggest regional expansion plans to date.

The investment will support original content, live sports and new entertainment services as the streaming platform strengthens its presence across the region.

The company said the funding will cover Mexico, Brazil, Argentina, Colombia and Chile where it plans to significantly increase local productions while broadening its sports portfolio.

The move reflects the growing importance of Latin America in the global streaming market as platforms compete for subscribers through regional content and exclusive sports rights.

More Local Originals Set for 2027

Prime Video plans to more than double the number of locally produced originals across the five countries from 2026. More than 25 new titles are scheduled for release in 2027.

The upcoming slate includes returning series such as "La Oficina" Season 2, "Tremembé" Season 2, "Menem" Season 2 and "Marília". The company also plans to expand its catalogue with new scripted dramas, films and reality shows designed for local audiences.

The strategy mirrors a wider industry trend with major streaming platforms increasingly investing in regional stories to attract and retain subscribers.

Sports and Streaming Services also Expand

Prime Video is also strengthening its live sports offering. Through its 11 year global NBA agreement, the platform now streams more than 200 NBA games each season in Brazil and Mexico. It has also introduced NBA coverage in Argentina, Colombia and Chile for the first time.

Beginning next month, Prime Video will become a new streaming home for the Mexico national football team, broadcasting 38 home matches over the next four years.

The company is also expanding its entertainment ecosystem. Customers in Costa Rica, the Dominican Republic, Guatemala, Paraguay and Peru will soon be able to subscribe to third-party streaming services directly through Prime Video. Premium movies, TV rentals and purchases will also launch in those countries as well as Argentina.
