Google Expands Gemini In Use Cases For Legal Department
Alphabet’s Google has spotlighted Gemini Enterprise artificial intelligence platform, a fresh suite of technology that was built for lawyers and law firms.
Gemini Enterprise for Legal is aimed at allowing firms to manage basic and more complex tasks, so lawyers have more time to focus on higher-value work. Google said that customer information will remain safe and private.
This plug-in provides the ability for Gemini to connect with legal software and data platforms. It includes, too, AI agents that can perform specialised legal and administrative functions with minimal human intervention.
Google Targets More Business Customers
In October, Google unveiled Gemini Enterprise as a way to entice more business customers into its AI offerings. That division has since turned into one of Alphabet’s fastest-growing businesses. Apart from its legal one, Google mentioned it is launching new tools around financial services along with forthcoming industry-specific products.
Competition in Legal Technology
Google is up against players like Anthropic, which has also been building out its enterprise and legal AI work. According to a 2026 report by Deloitte, law firms invest heavily in the use of AI as adoption across the legal industry is still at an early stage.
Among this competition is Thomson Reuters, owner of the online news outlet and Westlaw legal research database. On Monday, the company announced its release of a large language model called Thomson 1.0. Developed for professional purposes and trained on data from legal research content by Thomson Reuters.

Google talked about Gemini Enterprise for Legal, which will integrate securely with legal industry platforms including Thomson Reuters, Harvey and LexisNexis.

Numerous top-end law firms have linked up with AI companies and a few are even building their own systems.
Weil Gotshal, Cleary Gottlieb, Freshfields and Williams & Connolly are among the firms working with Google on Gemini Enterprise for Legal, according to Google. Jonathon Soler, Weil Gotshal co-managing partner, said clients are now beginning to demand that lawyers leverage AI and capture the productivity benefits it can deliver.
Cleary Gottlieb managing partner Jeffrey Karpf said its partnership with Google will allow the firm to assist in building AI-powered tools that would be applicable to legal services.
