Binance brings Apple Pay to Australian crypto cardholders
Synopsis
Binance brings Apple Pay to Australian crypto cardholders as mobile wallet use grows while cryptocurrency remains a limited payment method.
Crypto exchange Binance has integrated Apple Pay into its crypto card for Australian users and eligible Binance Card users can make payments using their Apple Watch or iPhone.
It was launched internationally on 10th September 2026 and became available in Australia on the same day. Binance card users can begin using their cards by adding them to the Apple Wallet app, enabling them to use them at contactless points of sale that take Apple Pay.
Binance Card users in New Zealand have also been given the same Apple Pay support on 10th September. The card covers Bitcoin, Ethereum, XRP, BNB, USDC and USDT, as well as other assets.
Mobile wallets gain ground in Australia
The launch comes as Australians are making more card payments using a mobile wallet. According to the Reserve Bank of Australia's Consumer Payment Behaviour in Australia, last May, around 40% of card payments were made using a device, up from 31% in 2022.
The RBA also found that 43% of consumers made an off-line payment using a mobile device in the survey week, compared to 35% in 2022. In 2025, most consumer payments were made using cards (73%) and online payments (20%).
Cryptocurrency remains a low volume of payment in Australia. Only around 2% of respondents reported using cryptocurrency to make a payment in the last year, while around 66% reported their familiarity with cryptocurrency as a form of payment.
Global adoption remains concentrated elsewhere
India has topped the list in the world according to the Chainalysis 2025 Global Crypto Adoption Index followed by the United States, Pakistan, Vietnam and Brazil. The United Kingdom came in at 11th and Japan at 19th, with Australia not even in the top 20.
The value of cryptocurrency transactions in the Asia Pacific region has grown by 69% since June 2024 to $2.36 trillion in a year, Chainalysis said.
Binance's Australian arm continues to be regulated. In August 2025, AUSTRAC directed the crypto exchange to appoint an external auditor following concerns raised regarding their anti-money laundering and anti-counter terrorism financing controls.
