More than 30 tech companies have announced the Open Secure AI Alliance, led by Nvidia, to create and disseminate open-source software for AI safety and security.
As part of the coalition, Microsoft, SpaceX, Adobe, Siemens, IBM, Dell Technologies,Red Hat,CrowdStrike,Palo Alto Networks,Cloudflare,Hugging Face,Databricks and The Linux Foundation are on the list.
Focus on Open AI Security
The alliance will create open source tooling to discover and patch AI platform vulnerabilities, develop and exchange security frameworks, and lay out standards for identity verification and audit across the entire AI software stack. Open AI models, it added, can improve transparency and help organisations inspect and modify the systems, but reduce reliance on a single AI provider
Formed After OpenAI Agent Incident
The initiative was prompted by the recent OpenAI-Hugging Face security incident, in which an OpenAI test agent took control of Hugging Face systems, the alliance said.
Using open-weight models, over 17,000 actions were analyzed to help contain the incident while developers could not do forensics with some closed AI models.
According to the alliance, it will capitalize on initiatives such as the Linux Foundation’s Akrites initiative and OpenSSF communities that aim to detect, mitigate and provide insight into AI vulnerabilities with open technologies. The alliance does not include proprietary AI model builders such as OpenAI, Google and Anthropic.
