Woodside Energy announced that its proposed Browse to North West Shelf Project has been assigned state significant project designation by the Western Australian government. The designation is the highest priority level within the WA government’s lead agency framework, which aims to facilitate the approvals process for major projects.
Economic Benefits Highlighted
The project is intended to support domestic gas supply while providing critical economic benefits for Western Australia and the wider Australian economy, Woodside said.
An independent economic analysis estimates the project will contribute approximately A$141 billion to national gross domestic product, and generate about A$56 billion in taxes and royalties including about A$19.8 billion stemming from petroleum resource rent tax.
Jobs and Regional Growth
The company said its proposed development will create 4,760 jobs and deliver regional benefits for regional communities throughout the Pilbara and Kimberley regions.
