Key Highlights

  • Adelaide’s Harvest Rock Festival is to take a “fallow year” in 2026, with organisers confirming it will not go ahead next year.
  • Organisers said they were already looking ahead and also have ambitions to return the festival.
  • 2025 was the year with the best attendance of 38,000
  • The announcement is one in a series of Australian music and entertainment postponements or cancellations forced by industry pressures.

Organisers have confirmed the Adelaide music event will take a “fallow year” before planning for its next festival, with Harvest Rock Festival announcing it won’t make its return in 2026.

The announcement was made on the festival’s social media channels late Friday, where organisers acknowledged that fans will be disappointed, but they are already working on plans for the future. The organisers said, “We know this will be disappointing news to many of you, but good things take time and we have started working on plans.”

They also thanked the South Australian Government for its ongoing support in establishing the festival since its inception in 2022, saying they looked forward to returning down south in future.

Festival reached record attendance in 2025

Last year’s edition was the largest festival, welcoming a record 38,000 music fans to Rymill and King Rodney Parks in Adelaide. International stars who played last year included The Strokes, Jelly Roll, Wolfmother, The War on Drugs and M.I.A.

In addition to legends like Paul Simon and noisemakers like Swans on the lineup, Harvest Rock has also since its 2022 debut hosted acts from Jack White to Beck & Jamiroquai. The event has not been interrupted for the first time. Organiser Secret Sounds delayed its planned 2024 event, raising questions at the time about the future of the festival before its successful return in 2025.

Chapter three

New blow to Australia’s live entertainment industry

This comes after several other high-profile events have been cancelled across Australia, including Harvest Rock. When Fisher postponed his Out 2 Lunch Festival until 2026 earlier this year, it was blamed on fuel shortages and the rise in the cost-of-living crisis in Australia. The festival was due to tour Melbourne, Gold Coast, Sydney and Perth.

The Australian live entertainment industry has also been plagued by struggles, with national tours of Beetlejuice the Musical and Waitress cancelled last month on weaker-than-expected ticket sales and production costs. The most recent announcement comes amid growing concern about the financial stress bearing down on Australia’s live events industry as audiences rush to buy tickets for large festivals and performances.
