Synopsis

Australian womenswear brand Proud Poppy has entered voluntary administration after reducing its store network. The inclusive fashion retailer will continue trading online and in-store while administrators oversee its restructuring.

Australian womenswear retailer Proud Poppy has entered voluntary administration, marking a significant setback for the inclusive fashion brand just seven years after its launch. The company has also reduced its physical store footprint while continuing to operate both online and in-store.

The appointment of administrators was disclosed in a notice published by the Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC). Kathleen Vouris, Richard Albarran and Marcus Watters have been appointed to oversee the administration process.

Chapter one

Proud Poppy Reduces Store Footprint

Proud Poppy previously operated seven stores across Australia. However, only three permanent stores are now listed on the brand's website, reflecting a streamlined retail network as the business undergoes restructuring.

Despite the administration process, the retailer said it will continue trading as normal through its online platform and existing stores. Two additional pop-up stores are also expected to open in Canberra and Adelaide.

Chapter two

Brand Built around Inclusive Fashion

Founded in 2019 by former emergency nurse Tara McKeon, Proud Poppy built its reputation on inclusive fashion, offering clothing in sizes ranging from 6 to 30.

On the company's website, McKeon has shared that her personal experience with weight gain during pregnancy and the difficulty of finding stylish, affordable clothing inspired her to launch the brand. The retailer positioned itself as a label designed to make fashion more accessible for women of different body types.

Chapter three

Creditors' Meeting Scheduled

As part of the voluntary administration process, the appointed administrators will hold the first meeting of creditors on August 17 where the company's financial position and next steps are expected to be discussed.

The outcome of the administration will determine the future direction of Proud Poppy, including whether the business can be restructured or whether other options will be pursued.
