Synopsis

Net profit after tax surged from $26.3 million to $94.1 million in the first half, while performance fees climbed to $118.7 million and funds under management reached $21.4 billion; long-short equities CIO and co-founder Philip King will remain in his roles through at least June 2027.

Regal Partners has delivered a strong first-half result with net profit after tax reaching $94.1 million for the six months to June 30, 2026. That compares with $26.3 million in the same period last year.

The Australian alternatives investment manager also recorded $118.7 million in performance fees which is up sharply from $42.4 million a year earlier. Funds under management rose to $21.4 billion as compared with $17.7 billion a year earlier.

The company declared a 12-cent fully franked dividend per share, double the 6-cent payment from the previous corresponding period. The result comes as Regal continues to expand across different investment strategies and markets.

Strong Inflows Support Regal's Growth

Regal's momentum was also reflected in client activity. The company recorded approximately $1.4 billion in net client inflows during the six months to June 30, spanning a range of strategies, capabilities and asset classes.

Regal Partners operates across areas including hedge funds, credit and royalties, growth equity, and real and natural assets. Its broader platform has now grown well beyond its original long-short equities focus.

The company said its funds under management figure includes several businesses across its platform and is a management estimate for June 30.

Philip King Begins Staged Retirement

The results came alongside a major leadership announcement. Philip King, Regal's co-founder and Chief Investment Officer for Long Short Equities, has begun a staged transition towards retirement.

King will remain in his current roles until at least June 30, 2027, allowing time for an orderly handover. There will be no immediate change to his portfolio management responsibilities.

King currently directly manages about 16% of Regal's total funds under management. The firm's long-short equities team has 35 investment professionals across 10 strategy teams with senior members having an average tenure of around 10 years.

King said he intends to retain a significant investment in Regal and remain a supportive shareholder after his retirement.

For Regal, the timing gives the firm a strong financial base while allowing it to manage one of its most important leadership transitions gradually.
