With an aim to expand their artificial intelligence infrastructure, American AI startup company, Anthropic, said on Wednesday that it will invest $50 billion in building data centers in the United States.
According to media reports, the firm, specialising in Claude AI models, would set up the facilities in Texas and New York. The latest facilities will be set up with infrastructure provider Fluidstack.
As the United States President, Donald Trump, has been pushing for investments on American soil, all major tech firms this year have announced to spend massively in the AI sector in the US.
Earlier in January, Trump had asked his administration to come up with an AI Action Plan, helping the US become the world capital in AI. Following this, several US firms rolled out their AI and energy investment pledges during the tech and AI summit in July.
About Anthropic’s Investment:
With the $50 billion investment, Anthropic claims that its new data centers in the US would generate about 800 permanent jobs and 2,400 construction jobs throughout 2026.
Anthropic claims that its outlay would help President Trump’s AI Action Plan and help the country become an AI leader. The firm added that its new centers would help in strengthening the US’s domestic technology infrastructure.
About Anthropic:
Anthropic is a San Francisco-based company, which is backed by Google-parent Alphabet, and Amazon.com. In early September, the firm was valued at $183 billion.
It was formed a group of former OpenAI employees in 2021, and serves over 300,000 enterprise customers. The firm’s Claude AI models are widely considered the most powerful frontier models in the market.
