Australian AI Startup Nears $1B Unicorn Valuation
Synopsis
Australian AI healthcare startup Heidi Health is reportedly seeking more than $100 million in fresh funding with the deal expected to value the fast-growing medical software company at over $1 billion.
Australian health technology start-up Heidi Health is on the verge of achieving unicorn status as it negotiates a funding round that could value the company at more than $1 billion.
According to people familiar with the discussions, the AI-powered medical software company is seeking to raise over $100 million, reflecting strong investor confidence in its rapid global growth.
If the deal is completed, the milestone would make Heidi Health one of Australia's newest unicorns and mark a major achievement for the healthcare AI sector.
Rapid Growth Fuels Investor Interest
Founded seven years ago by former vascular surgeon Thomas Kelly, Heidi Health has emerged as one of Australia's fastest-growing AI start-ups. The company develops artificial intelligence software that transcribes conversations between healthcare professionals and patients, automatically generating clinical notes and reducing administrative workloads.
The start-up gained widespread attention after venture capital firm Blackbird Ventures described it as the fastest-growing company in its investment portfolio, surpassing even Canva's early growth trajectory.
People familiar with the funding discussions said Heidi Health is currently seeking more than $100 million in fresh capital at a valuation exceeding $1 billion. However, the funding round has not yet been finalised, and the company has declined to comment on the negotiations.
Revenue Growth Strengthens Unicorn Ambitions
Heidi Health's financial performance has strengthened its appeal among investors. Earlier this year, the company revealed that its ARR had surged from US$1 million in 2024 to US$50 million with sources now indicating that ARR has exceeded US$60 million.
The company said its AI platform is already used more than one million times each week by doctors, nurses, psychologists and veterinarians across hospitals and healthcare organisations in Australia, Canada, Germany, the United Kingdom and many other countries.
Today, Heidi Health's technology is available in 190 countries which highlights its growing international presence.
Global Expansion Remains the Company's Priority
Rather than focusing solely on Australia's healthcare market, Heidi Health is targeting enterprise partnerships with major hospitals and healthcare organisations worldwide.
The company has also expanded its product portfolio by introducing Heidi Remote, a clip-on microphone designed to support AI-powered medical documentation during patient consultations. It continues to integrate its platform with practice management software providers to broaden adoption across healthcare systems.
Kelly said the company's strategy has always centred on solving common documentation challenges faced by clinicians globally rather than building products tailored to a single country's healthcare software ecosystem.
Australia's Startup Ecosystem Continues to Produce Unicorns
If completed, Heidi Health's latest funding round would add another name to Australia's growing list of billion-dollar private technology companies.
Recent Australian unicorns include robotics company Advanced Navigation, aerospace company Gilmour Space, AI infrastructure firm Firmus Technologies, and digital healthcare company Eucalyptus.
Despite tighter conditions for late-stage venture capital funding, Heidi Health's strong revenue growth, expanding international customer base and AI-driven healthcare platform have positioned it among the country's most closely watched start-ups.
