YouTube Lets Creators Tag Amazon Products and Earn Commissions
Synopsis
YouTube has integrated Amazon into its Shopping affiliate programme, allowing eligible US creators to tag products directly in videos and earn commissions from qualifying purchases.
YouTube has expanded its creator monetisation tools by allowing eligible US creators to tag Amazon products directly in shorts, long-form videos and livestreams, enabling them to earn commissions when viewers make qualifying purchases.
The move brings Amazon’s vast marketplace into YouTube’s Shopping affiliate ecosystem and gives creators a simpler way to turn product recommendations into revenue.
Instead of placing Amazon Associates links in video descriptions and relying on viewers to follow them, creators can now tag eligible products directly within their content.
Amazon Products Come to YouTube Shopping
YouTube already operates a Shopping affiliate programme with participating retailers. The addition of Amazon significantly broadens the range of products creators can recommend through the platform.
Amazon will provide YouTube with a curated catalogue featuring highly requested and trending products. Creators who cannot find a particular product they want to recommend can request its addition through YouTube Support.
The feature also includes an auto-tagging option. When enabled, YouTube can review a creator’s recent uploads and automatically identify eligible Amazon products for tagging.
The integration arrives as the creator economy continues to expand. YouTube says its Partner Programme has more than 3 million creators. It highlights the scale of the platform available to advertisers, retailers and affiliate businesses.
Commissions Can Extend Beyond the US
The feature is currently available only to eligible creators in the United States, although the Amazon product tags can be viewed globally.
YouTube said its system may automatically match tagged products with trusted local merchant offers, allowing creators to earn commissions from eligible purchases made internationally. If a suitable local merchant is unavailable, viewers may instead be directed to Amazon’s US website.
Creators will see their overall daily earnings through YouTube Studio rather than detailed commission breakdowns for individual products or videos. If a customer returns an item, the associated commission will be deducted from the creator’s balance.
Eligibility Requirements for Creators
To participate, creators must be enrolled in both YouTube’s Partner Programme and Shopping affiliate programme. They must also have an active Amazon Influencer or Associates account linked to their YouTube channel.
For Amazon, the partnership offers another route to reach consumers at the point of discovery while YouTube gains a deeper connection between entertainment, product recommendations and online shopping.
