Nvidia in Talks to Invest Up to $10B in Anthropic IPO
Synopsis
Nvidia is considering up to $10 billion in Anthropic’s potential IPO, which could raise $100 billion and value the AI company at about $2 trillion as AI spending accelerates.
Nvidia is reportedly close to finalizing an investment of up to $10 billion in Anthropic, which will go public later this year, and Nvidia is being targeted as the anchor investor in the company's IPO.
The IPO would potentially value the value of the AI company at approximately $2 trillion and raise as much as $100 billion.
The discussions are ongoing, and the amount of Nvidia’s investment and the timing of the listing have yet to be finalized. Although the timing is still fluid, Anthropic is aiming to go public before the U.S. midterm elections in November.
Anthropic Builds Toward a Record-Scale Listing
The talks of the Nvidia IPO happen as the value and revenues of the AI company skyrocket. In May, Anthropic raised $65 billion at a $965 billion post-money valuation, compared to $380 billion in February.
Anthropic’s annualized revenue run rate now exceeds $65 billion, compared to $47 billion in May. The company’s ongoing reports project revenues of $190 billion and $200 billion in 2028.
In addition, Nvidia has a substantial collaboration with Anthropic, providing GPUs for model training and inference. Anthropic has major technology and infrastructure partnerships with Amazon and Google, and it is interested in diversifying its GPU suppliers.
Nvidia Anthropic IPO, if realized, would be one of the largest public offerings in history on a scale with the companies mentioned above. The U.S. IPO market has raised $137 billion so far this year, excluding SPACs, according to data through June 2023.
Nvidia Revenue Surges as AI Infrastructure Spending Expands
Nvidia’s revenue growth was driven by increased sales of chips for AI infrastructure. Nvidia Anthropic IPO is part of the broader trend of investment in AI computer hardware. Nvidia’s revenue jumped 106% to reach $96.2 billion in its fiscal second quarter, which ended July 26, and data centre revenue rose by 117% to $89 billion.
Nvidia Anthropic IPO reflects the demand for computer chips and computers in general for the AI industry. If realized, Anthropic’s IPO would give the public another opportunity to participate in the hot AI space.
According to the latest forecast, the worldwide commercial spending on AI is set to reach $2,590 billion this year, a 47% increase from 2025, and over 45% of total spending on AI is projected to be allocated to AI infrastructure.
Therefore, the Nvidia Anthropic IPO is a welcome development for the public, which wants to gain exposure to the AI space by investing in AI chip manufacturers and models.
