Synopsis

Europe’s largest airline will deploy Google’s Gemini and DeepMind models across its operations, using AI to automate decisions, optimise crew scheduling and improve fleet maintenance as it targets 300 million passengers a year by 2034.

Google Cloud will embed the airline into artificial intelligence, with the deal with Ryanair covering the five-year period, reported on August 11th.

Furthermore, the Ryanair Google cloud deal covers the crew scheduling, decision-making process, fleet operations, and maintenance. Additionally, 35 thousand Ryanair staff members will gain access to the Google Workspace and Google Cloud.

The airline company wants to utilise Gemini Enterprise to design AI agents that will help with specific operating and scheduling decisions. Meanwhile, the fleet operations and maintenance will benefit from DeepMind’s AlphaEvolve and WeatherNext models.

Moreover, the Ryanair Google cloud deal will see the airline using Google Cloud on Amazon Web Services. The simultaneous use of two cloud service providers will ensure “redundancy in the event of technology outages,” Ryanair noted. The value of the contract has remained undisclosed.

208.4 Million Passengers in Latest Financial Year

The overall number of passengers carried by the airline company during the past financial year stands at 208.4 Million.

The Ryanair Google cloud deal comes after the airline posted record full-year profit for tax for FY26 of €2.26 billion, up 40 percent year-over-year.

Furthermore, revenue climbed 11 percent to €15.54 billion, with passenger traffic rising by 4 percent to 208.4m. In addition, the airline company operated a fleet of 647 aircraft as of March 31, 2026.

Additionally, Ryanair announced its intent to carry 300 million passengers annually by 2034. Thus, the cloud contract reflects the airline’s expansionary strategy, complementing its continued digital transformation efforts.

Global Airlines Face Higher Costs

The Ryanair Google cloud deal is one of the airline industry’s persistent financial challenges in the face of rising fuel costs and the need to increase profitability.

Meanwhile, according to the IATA Global Outlook for Air Transport, June 2026, the industry can carry 5.1 billion passengers worldwide this year, with revenues reaching $1.165 trillion. Furthermore, an industry passenger load factor of 84 percent is anticipated for 2026.

IATA decreased its profit projections for airlines in its June 2026 outlook, citing increased jet fuel prices and regional disruptions in the Middle East. The figures are critical indicators for profit growth for airlines that carry a growing number of passengers while seeking to reduce their cost per passenger.
