Synopsis

The new service gives Prime members in Australia's two largest cities faster delivery options, including overnight orders arriving between 4am and 8am.

Amazon Australia has launched its fastest delivery service to date, giving Prime members in Sydney and Melbourne access to free overnight and same-day shipping on eligible orders.

Starting today, customers who spend at least $49 can choose from three new delivery windows, marking a significant expansion of the retailer's logistics capabilities in Australia.

Under the new offering, orders placed by 10 pm will arrive between 4 am and 8 am the next morning. Customers ordering by 8 am can receive their purchases between 2 pm and 6 pm. Furthermore, those placing orders before 12 pm may have their items delivered within five hours through the 5 pm to 10 pm evening window.

Non-Prime customers will also be able to access the service for an additional delivery fee.

Faster Fulfilment Backed by a Growing Logistics Network

The rollout initially covers more than one million products in Sydney and over 500,000 items in Melbourne. Eligible categories include electronics, household essentials, books, beauty products, clothing, kitchenware, toys and small appliances.

Amazon Australia said the new service is designed to better match changing shopping habits where customers increasingly expect deliveries to fit around their daily schedules.

Alongside the faster shipping options, the company has introduced Amazon Day which allows shoppers to consolidate multiple purchases into a single weekly delivery, reducing the number of separate shipments.

Investment Signals Long-Term Expansion Plans

The launch reflects Amazon's continued investment in Australia's fulfilment and delivery infrastructure. The company now operates eight fulfilment centres and 12 logistics sites nationwide with plans to invest $1.6 billion in five additional operational facilities between 2024 and 2027.

Amazon has also expanded its same-day delivery service to Adelaide, Canberra and Geelong that signals a broader push to strengthen last-mile logistics across the country.

Globally, Amazon continues to set the pace for rapid ecommerce fulfilment. The company reported US$638 billion in net sales during 2025, underscoring the scale of its logistics network and ongoing investments in automation, distribution technology and customer experience.

The latest Australian rollout highlights how those investments are increasingly shaping local ecommerce expectations and intensifying competition among online retailers.
