Alceon Takes Majority Stake in Microsoft Partner Engage Squared
Synopsis
Alceon has acquired a majority stake in Microsoft partner Engage Squared, marking the first investment from its new private equity fund as the technology consultancy prepares to expand its AI, cybersecurity and Microsoft ecosystem capabilities.
Sydney-based alternative investment manager Alceon has acquired a majority stake in Engage Squared, one of Australia’s largest independent Microsoft partners, in the first investment made through its newly launched Alceon Private Equity Access Fund.
The Alceon Engage Squared majority stake deal will give the technology services company additional capital and operational support as it expands its work across artificial intelligence, cybersecurity and Microsoft platforms.
Founded in 2014, Engage Squared has grown to 170 employees across eight offices and works with enterprise and government clients across Australia and New Zealand.
Group CEO Alastair Cashen will continue to lead the company while its existing management team will retain a substantial ownership position. Co-founder Stephen Monk will leave the business following the transaction.
Alceon Targets AI and Technology Services Growth
The investment comes as businesses increase spending on AI implementation and related technology services. Engage Squared specialises in Microsoft’s cloud and collaboration ecosystem and has increasingly focused on helping organisations move AI projects from experimentation into wider business use.
The Engage Squared Microsoft partner relationship gives the company a strong base as demand grows for services linked to Microsoft Copilot, Azure and other enterprise technologies. The deal is also an example of the growing interest in AI implementation consultancy investment, as companies look for help turning new AI tools into practical applications.
Cashen said the partnership would allow Engage Squared to invest further in its people, capabilities and customers.
Alceon Makes First Fund Investment
The transaction marks the Alceon debut deal for its new private equity fund, which targets founder-led businesses in Australia and New Zealand with strong cash flow and growth potential. Alceon currently manages around $5 billion in funds under management.
Zac Midalia, managing director and head of private equity at Alceon, said Engage Squared sits at the intersection of two areas where the firm sees strong potential, Australia’s lower mid-market and enterprise AI adoption.
The Alceon Private Equity Access Fund will also look for opportunities to support portfolio companies through acquisitions, creating a possible path for Engage Squared to expand both organically and through targeted deals.
The transaction adds to the growing pool of Australian PE tech deals focused on technology services and recurring enterprise demand. For Engage Squared, the immediate focus will be on expanding its AI and cybersecurity capabilities while strengthening its position within the Microsoft ecosystem.
