Apple To Delay Next iPhone Air's Launch After Sales Plunge

American multinational technology company Apple is mulling not releasing the next version of the iPhone Air in the fall of 2026.

The tech giant has also scaled back production of the first version. Earlier in September, Apple launched the super-thin version of the iPhone; however, it didn’t get the response the firm expected. Looking at the sales, the firm is mulling some changes for its future.

Despite launching the iPhone Air in 2025, within its flagship iPhone portfolio and marketing it as a thinner and lighter alternative, the response in sales didn’t turn up as expected. The model of the latest gadget arrived with some trade-offs in terms of battery size and camera features.

During the launch, the firm even said that the iPhone Air would be available for pre-order in China. However, it is added that this would be possible only after regulatory approval for eSIM services by the telecom operators.

Currently, the iPhone Air is being sold in China without a physical SIM tray.

Production Slashed

Usually, Apple is known to hold steady for at least six months after the launch of its gadgets. However, with a decrease in sales, the component requests were cut by roughly 80 per cent. This equates to around a million unit delta from original plans.

New Strategy

Apple to delay next iPhone Air’s launch after sales plunge

Apple iPhone Air Features

At its October launch, Apple marketed iPhone Air with features including an A19 Pro chip, a 48MP Fusion Main camera, and an 18MP Centre Stage front camera.

Its other features included a Super Retina XDR display with ProMotion technology and a thin design. Apple had announced that the iPhone Air would include Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6 via the new Apple-designed modem and N1 networking chips. Among others, the iPhone Air would run on Apple’s latest operating system, iOS 26.

Looking at the battery life, Apple had claimed that the gadget would last all day with a single charge.

Overall, the features may have a good impression on the paper; its real-time scenario tells a different story. The iPhone Air 2025 battery drains quickly, while its mono speaker is not ideal for watching videos. Also, the high price of $999 turns up to be a big setback for the buyers.
