Twenty People Who Were Alive Get Back to Israel

Monday brought tears of joy and relief as twenty Israelis walked free after spending more than two years as hostages in Gaza. Hamas captured them on October 7, 2023, and their families have been waiting ever since. At hospitals and military bases across Israel, people gathered to welcome them home. The scenes were emotional, mothers and sons holding each other, couples reuniting after what felt like forever apart. Physicians examined everyone who returned early in the morning. Then they got to spend time with family. Across Tel Aviv, at a place called Hostages Square, many people came with flags waving and holding photos of those who had been released.

Families Totally Stunned, Dead Bodies Are Not Returning

Hamas informed that they’d just returned four dead bodies on Monday. But they signed that all 28 bodies would return. The families are not happy about the change. They’re claiming that if Hamas is not going to do as they promised, then neither should Israel. The four bodies Hamas will return are Guy Illouz, Yossi Sharabi, Bipin Joshi, and Daniel Peretz.

The people want all the bodies returned so people can bury them and go to the graves. The organisation for the hostage families are insisting that Israel needs to do nothing until Hamas returns all the bodies. No shortcuts, no exceptions.

Israel Released Some Palestinians From Jail

Israel’s contribution to the exchange involved releasing nearly 2,000 Palestinians from jail. Some were in there for some big sentences. Others were caught up in the fighting and never even made it to court. Buses took them to Ramallah in the West Bank, and some of them went to Gaza as well. Huge mobs pushed and jostled trying to see their boys, their husbands, whoever was home.

The people who were stepping off those buses were rough. Real thin, super pale skin, like they had never seen sunlight. Some people couldn’t even walk straight and had someone who was holding them up. One of the doctors working there said some got beaten around pretty badly just before Israel released them.

They don’t want Hamas to receive credit or for people to behave as if these prisoners are heroes. Palestinians look at it differently; in their eyes, these are people who resisted. In the meantime, Trump boarded a plane headed for Egypt, where a large group of country leaders are convening. He stood before Israel’s governmental officials and declared that this is akin to a new beginning for all of the Middle East.
