Red Fort Blast: 8 Dead, Several Injured; Delhi on High Alert

A massive explosion rocked the area near Delhi’s historic Red Fort on Monday evening, leaving at least eight people dead and more than twenty injured. The incident occurred around 7 p.m. near the Red Fort Metro Station, triggering chaos and panic among commuters and local residents.

The Incident

According to preliminary reports, the explosion took place when a white Hyundai i20 car suddenly burst into flames near Gate 1 of the Red Fort Metro Station. Eyewitnesses said the blast was powerful enough to set several nearby vehicles ablaze, including cars and auto-rickshaws.

Security agencies have identified the car’s registration number as HR26 CE 7674, reportedly registered in Haryana. Sources confirm that the vehicle had been parked in the vicinity for more than two hours before the explosion occurred.

Casualties and Emergency Response

Police officials confirmed that eight people lost their lives, and more than twenty sustained injuries, many of them severe. The injured were immediately rushed to Lok Nayak Hospital and other nearby medical facilities. Firefighters and forensic teams reached the scene promptly and worked to control the flames while collecting evidence.

Investigation Underway

Authorities have filed a case under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) and the Explosives Act, indicating that the incident is being investigated as a possible terror attack.
The National Investigation Agency (NIA) and Delhi Police’s Special Cell have taken over the probe. Early findings suggest that crude explosives might have been used inside the vehicle.

CCTV footage and toll booth data are being analyzed to track the car’s route into the capital. Initial reports indicate that the vehicle was last traced entering Delhi from the Badarpur border.

Government Response

Union Home Minister Amit Shah chaired an emergency meeting late Monday night to assess the situation. Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed condolences to the victims’ families and directed authorities to ensure the best possible medical care for the injured.

Security Tightened Across Major Cities

Following the blast, Delhi, Mumbai, Noida, and several other metro cities have been placed on high alert. Security has been strengthened at railway stations, metro stations, airports, and major tourist landmarks.
Police have urged citizens to remain calm and report any suspicious activity immediately.

What’s Next

Forensic experts are analyzing the remnants of the car to determine the exact type of explosive used. Investigators are also tracing the chain of vehicle ownership, which may provide key clues about the suspects involved.

While officials have not ruled out the possibility of a terror link, they emphasize that conclusions will only be drawn after detailed forensic examination and intelligence assessment.
