Two US diplomats, Steve Witkoff and Mike Huckabee, traveled to Gaza on Friday. This is the first trip in over 10 years for such senior American officials. They spent five hours in Gaza and visited food and supply facilities operated by Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF) in Rafah city in the southern part of Gaza. The trip was made due to the fact that a lot of people in Gaza lack food or assistance. Following the tour, the envoys will present to President Donald Trump, so a new Gaza aid strategy can be formulated.

Increasing Gaza Aid Distribution Criticism

Aid Ambassador Mike Huckabee has come to the defense of the activities of GHF. He posted on social media that GHF provides over one million meals daily. He also told Fox News that it is not random that Israeli soldiers are shooting Palestinians at food centers and that most reports of this are false.

GHF started in May following an Israeli blockade and has now become the central group providing food in Gaza, funded by the United States and Israel. The Trump administration provided $30 million to GHF.

The UN stated that 1,373 Palestinians have been killed attempting to access food since GHF began, and 859 of them died close to GHF centers. Global organizations such as Save the Children and Oxfam requested the closure of GHF, stating that the food centers have become unsafe destinations.

Trump Plans New Gaza Aid Strategy

President Trump recently stated that there is actual hunger in Gaza, unlike the perception of Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu. Trump indicated he will be coming up with a new plan shortly to provide additional food and assistance to the people of Gaza. The contents of the plan are not yet known.

While on the trip, Steve Witkoff also met Netanyahu talked about an extended ceasefire plan and how to ensure more food and supplies enter Gaza. Trump's team indicated the priority will be assisting civilians and not Hamas and coming up with a better way of providing aid.
