Israel launched air strikes on southern Beirut just hours before Islam's most sacred holiday started. The attacks targeted areas where the militant group Hezbollah operates, and this frightened thousands of individuals.

Attacks on Drone Factory

Israeli military individuals asserted they were targeting areas deep below the ground where Hezbollah produces numerous flying weapons, dubbed drones. Iran was funding the weapons, which Israel's army perceived as threatening its nation's security.

Before dropping the bombs, Israeli commanders instructed residents of three neighborhoods to evacuate their homes immediately. They even posted photos online where they indicated which buildings they were going to bomb.

Holiday Timing Angers People

People in Lebanon are furious about this attack. The bombing was just before Eid Al Adha, and this is a really significant time when Muslim families gather together and perform special religious ceremonies.

Lebanon's highest official, Prime Minister Nawaf Salam, was very angry about the bombing. He claimed that it was orchestrated on purpose to damage his country's security and financial situation. He highlighted how inappropriate it was to carry out such an act at a time when people should be enjoying themselves and when tourists are around. President Joseph Aoun said that the attacks ruined agreements between nations and frightened people as they prepared for their holy day.

The Ceasefire Still in Effect

What is so strange is that Lebanon and Israel struck a deal six months ago to cease hostilities with one another. The deal was to put an end to hostilities that had been going on for over a year and had injured thousands of individuals.

Back during that previous combat, Israeli bombs injured around 4,000 individuals in Lebanon, and many of them were not soldiers. Over a million Lebanese citizens had to flee their homes. Israel lost over 80 soldiers and 47 civilians.

Lebanese Army Threatens to Act

Lebanon's military signaled that it would cooperate less with the committee overseeing the ceasefire agreement following the explosion on Thursday.  In the coming weeks, this could make it more dangerous.

Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz praised Hezbollah's work and cautioned that Lebanon's government had to act more to stop Hezbollah.  However, Lebanese officials maintain that Israel's constant attacks and military deployment in southern Lebanon also violate the terms of the ceasefire. The attacks have made it extremely difficult to believe that the peace agreement will work, particularly since both sides are accusing each other of violating it.
