The White House has confirmed that President Trump has a common vein condition called chronic venous insufficiency, following a public concern over visible veins on his hand and swelling in his legs. This result came after Trump underwent a medical exam, including a vascular test, earlier this week.

The statement, first made by White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt, explained that bruising on Trump’s hand was from frequent handshaking, and it was made worse by his daily aspirin use. Aspirin is often taken by older adults to help prevent heart problems by thinning the blood, which can lead to easier bruising. She said the leg swelling was related to a vein condition, but it is not considered serious.

Photos taken in recent days, including during the FIFA World Cup final in New Jersey, and in meetings with leaders like the Bahraini Prime Minister, had shown swelling in the President’s leg and discoloration on his hand. The images sparked rumors about a possible hidden illness.

What is chronic venous insufficiency? Is it serious?

Chronic Venous insufficiency is a condition that mostly affects older adults. It happens when the veins don’t work properly and can’t push blood back up to the heart. Instead, blood collects in the lower leg, leading to swelling or discomfort.

Doctors say that it is a non-life-threatening condition and is very common in people over 70. Being overweight, having blood clot in the past, or standing for long hours increases the risk of this condition. And it can be managed with compression stockings, leg elevation, and proper skin care.

Doctor’s Diagnoses about President Trump

Dr Matthew Edwards, vascular expert, said, “That we are all more prone to bruising as we get older, especially when taking aspirin.” He added that even a firm handshake could leave a mark on aging skin. This condition only affects the lower part of the body, and doctors found no signs of other illnesses, deep or heart failure in the President’s medical report, and says all tests were within a normal range, and he continues to be in excellent physical and cognitive health.
