Synopsis

Saudi Aramco inked 17 preliminary deals with American companies worth over $30 billion during Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman's visit to Washington. The projects will include liquefied natural gas, financial services, advanced materials and procurement. Deals include a tie with MidOcean Energy for the Lake Charles LNG project and Commonwealth LNG in Louisiana. Aramco also partnered with Baker Hughes, Halliburton, Blackstone, and JPMorgan. The agreements build on 34 preliminary deals worth up to $90 billion signed during Trump's Gulf tour in May.

On‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌ Wednesday, Saudi Aramco agreed to several initial agreements with 17 U.S. companies, the combined value of which could exceed $30 billion. It was the outcome of the Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman's trip to Washington. The deal portfolio encompasses LNG, financial services, the manufacturing of advanced materials, and the procurement of materials and services. Aramco put out a statement explaining the deals.

Chapter one

Deals Build on Earlier Agreements from May

On Wednesday, billions of dollars in new investments were discussed by Saudi and US officials as ties between both nations evidently continued to grow financially. Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, the de facto leader, visited the White House on that same occasion.

Aramco is led by CEO Amin Nasser. In the statement, he added that they expect the multibillion-dollar memoranda of understanding and agreements announced today to act as a springboard to further progress. He said they will strengthen Aramco's collaboration with American firms.

The agreements are an extension of earlier memoranda of understanding signed during the tour of the Gulf by US President Donald Trump in May. Aramco inked 34 preliminary deals during Trump's visit. Those were potentially worth up to $90 billion.

Chapter two

Aramco‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌ Wants to Be a Leading Player in Natural Gas

One of Aramco's ambitions is to be a significant player in liquefied natural gas. To be specific, the company is targeting expansion in the U.S. market. Part of the understanding and agreements on Wednesday is a collaboration with MidOcean Energy. The investment in the Lake Charles LNG project might be the implication of that. Additionally, there is a contract with Commonwealth LNG regarding a liquefaction facility in ‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌Louisiana.

Aramco also announced tie-ups with other energy companies. The‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌ business also agreed terms with major financial institutions Blackstone and JPMorgan. LNG stands for liquefied natural gas, which is basically natural gas that has been cooled to a point that it turns into a liquid. In this form, it is significantly more transportable over the sea. LNG is gaining traction as a preferred option for countries in their quest for cleaner energy sources other than coal or ‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌oil.

The Lake Charles project is in Louisiana. Louisiana already has much natural gas infrastructure along its coast. Several firms are constructing LNG export terminals there, where the gas will be cooled and loaded onto specialised ships.

Chapter three

Saudi Arabia Pushing Into the US Energy Market

Saudi Arabia has traditionally focused on oil, but now the kingdom wants to expand into natural gas too. The US has become one of the biggest producers of natural gas in the world over the past couple of years. American companies use a technique called fracking to get gas out of the ground.

Aramco sees an opportunity in partnering with American companies. The deals signed on Wednesday are preliminary, meaning they aren't final yet; a lot of details from both sides remain to be fleshed out. But memoranda of understanding show serious interest from both parties.

Baker Hughes provides equipment for oil and gas companies, as does Halliburton. Both companies have operations all over the world. A partnership with them gives Aramco access to American technology and expertise.

Deals‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌ with Blackstone and JPMorgan reveal that Aramco is also looking for financial partners. Blackstone is one of the most significant investment firms globally; JPMorgan is a major bank. The presence of such financial giants can definitely help in financing large-scale ‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌projects. Business dominated Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman's visit to Washington. The kingdom's leader met with President Trump at the White House. Trump has been very warm towards the Saudi leader. The two countries have long been allies.
