YouTube went down, disrupting access for hundreds of thousands of users worldwide. Many reported error messages like "Something went wrong" when trying to play videos, load the homepage, or use the mobile app, affecting both desktop and smartphone users.
According to Downdetector, over 283,000 users in the U.S. reported issues, while India recorded more than 18,000 complaints during the peak of the outage. Globally, the platform saw over 321,000 reports of service disruptions, covering video playback, live streaming, and login functions. About 56% of U.S. issues were linked to the app, while 71% of users in India faced app-related problems, and 18% encountered live streaming difficulties.
App, streaming, and YouTube TV services affected
Other related YouTube apps, such as YouTube TV, were also impacted by the outage, which was experienced in several regions at once. Widespread disruption saw users reporting problems and writing about their experiences on social media.
YouTube and parent company Google had not issued a statement as to the cause or time of duration of the outage at the time of reporting. Many users again gradually had service after the peak disruption, although some continued to have intermittent problems.
