Synopsis

The asset manager said hackers stole some personal information in a breach last month, making the private-equity giant the latest prominent US financial firm targeted by ransom-seeking attackers.

Apollo Global Management has confirmed a data breach after hackers gained unauthorized access to some of the company’s cloud platforms between July 6 and 10.

The New York asset manager says that the breach may expose customer names, dates of birth, phone numbers, addresses, and Social Security numbers. Apollo has reported the breach to the authorities and subjected its data analytics and forensic accounting to third-party cybersecurity firms.

Personal data at risk

Apollo said that as of now, it has no proof that the information was publicly distributed or utilized inappropriately to commit identity theft or fraud. The organization has not disclosed the number of consumers affected and the amount of data at risk.

The attack is part of a larger pattern that sees U.S. financial institutions and corporations being investigated. In social engineering attacks, hackers have targeted organizations using phone calls in an effort to receive information or get someone to provide access to their systems, according to Reuters.

Other firms affected by similar attacks include Uber, Levi Strauss, and several other companies. Besides financial services, the campaign’s scope appears to extend to other industries. Apollo has not stated which unidentified hacker organization is responsible for the attack.

Apollo Reports $1.05 Trillion in Assets

The Apollo Group, which has $1.05 trillion in assets under management as of June 30, 2026, according to the most recent quarter’s findings, is the victim of the Apollo Global data breach. To put it another way, the 1.05 trillion represents the value of the assets controlled by Apollo’s investment and retirement management divisions as of June 30, 2026.

Apollo recorded $11.15 billion in revenue and net income of $1.34 billion (exclusive of preferred stock dividends) in net income for the second quarter. Apollo reported net income for fiscal 2026 of $1.34 billion, compared to $970 million for the same period in 2025, driven by $60 billion in inflows this quarter, surpassing a record-breaking year for the business. Additionally, the company’s assets under management increased by approximately 25% from the previous year.

Another illustration of the rising expenditures for businesses as a result of data breaches is the Apollo Global data breach. According to the report on the Cost of a Data Breach by IBM 2026, the global average for a data breach increased by 12 percent year-over-year to $4.99 million.

According to the publication, 56% of assaults were launched using artificial intelligence, and financial services were among the industries where costs for breaches saw a significant increase. An investigation into the Apollo Global data breach is ongoing.
