Anthropic Nears $15B Credit Facility Ahead of Mega IPO
Synopsis
Anthropic is nearing a $15 billion revolving credit facility as it prepares for a major US IPO, giving the Claude maker greater financial flexibility while major Wall Street banks compete for roles in its expected public offering.
Anthropic is nearing a deal to expand its revolving credit facility to $15 billion, giving the artificial intelligence company a substantial new source of financing as it prepares for a closely watched public listing.
Morgan Stanley is leading the financing, with Goldman Sachs, JPMorgan Chase and Citigroup also playing prominent roles.
The four banks are also expected to have leading positions in Anthropic’s IPO.
The proposed facility would be significantly larger than Anthropic’s original target of about $10 billion and would expand on a $2.5 billion five-year revolving credit line secured by the Claude maker last year.
Details remain subject to change because negotiations have not been publicly finalised.
Banks Compete for IPO Roles
The credit facility has attracted a broad group of major lenders. Barclays and Wells Fargo are expected to hold key positions, while Bank of America, Deutsche Bank, Royal Bank of Canada and UBS are also among the participating banks.
Anthropic has reportedly asked its most active lenders to provide about $1.25 billion each. A second group has been encouraged to commit around $1 billion while smaller participants could provide about $750 million or less. Banks generally receive higher fees when they take larger commitments in syndicated loans.
The arrangement also illustrates how lenders are competing for roles in what could become one of the largest technology IPOs in years.
Anthropic’s IPO Ambitions
Anthropic confidentially filed for a US IPO in June and could make its market debut as soon as this autumn. The company’s financial growth has strengthened expectations around the offering.
Its annualised revenue run rate surpassed $65 billion by the end of July, while Reuters reported that Anthropic is projecting revenue of about $190 billion to $200 billion in 2028.
The scale of the planned financing reflects the enormous capital requirements of the AI race, from computing infrastructure to model development. It also positions Anthropic to enter public markets with substantial financial flexibility as competition with rivals such as OpenAI intensifies.
