Pizza Hut Wants to Be Cool Again With a Yo-Chi Twist
Synopsis
Pizza Hut is revamping its Australian stores with a Yo-Chi-inspired look, betting that a more modern design can shake off its dated image and reconnect with younger customers.
Pizza Hut Australia is set to revamp over 100 of its restaurants as its US-based operator, Flynn Group, rolls out a new store concept inspired by Australian frozen-yoghurt chain Yo-Chi.
The proposed changes follow Flynn's acquisition of the Pizza Hut Australia master franchise in 2023, which granted them over 260 restaurants and the firm's first overseas operations.
Flynn Adds 16 Restaurants in 2025
Flynn Group has launched 16 new Pizza Huts in Australia in 2025, according to Iain Bylsma, CEO of Flynn ANZ. It was called the 10 biggest new unit gains for Pizza Hut in 10 years.
Currently, Flynn's company details over 260 Pizza Hut locations in Australia, plus their broader network in the US. The group joined the Pizza Hut system in the US in 2021, by acquiring over 900 restaurants.
Flynn, in turn, is now a part of a bigger US-Australian franchise, with the Australian business now one of the biggest in the world.
Australian Pizza Market Worth A$2.37 Billion
The proposed changes cater to the fact that Australia's pizza foodservice market continues to be a substantial component of the hospitality industry. Expert Market Research estimates the market was worth A$2.37 billion in 2025 and forecasts it will reach almost A$4.45 billion by 2035.
The forecast for the period 2026 to 2035 is 6.5 per cent a year. GlobalData reported year-on-year compound annual growth rate for the pizza market in Australia at 6.53% from 2020 to 2025.
According to IBISWorld, the entire restaurant sector in Australia was worth AUD 26.9 billion as shown in 2026, far from just pizza restaurants.
Flynn's Australian launch is also taking place in line with its US Pizza Hut business. It introduced over 260 Pizza Hut restaurants to Australia, following a successful expansion of its Pizza Hut chain in the United States, where it has over 900 units.
