Brandon Craig Announces Leadership Changes Before Taking Helm at BHP
Synopsis
BHP's incoming chief executive Brandon Craig has announced changes to the miner's leadership team ahead of officially taking over on July 1, signalling an early effort to shape the company's next phase of growth and operations.
Key Highlights
- BHP makes executive changes
- Brandon Craig will take over as Chief Executive on July 1.
- Created a new position of chief enterprise performance officer
BHP said on Wednesday ahead of Brandon Craig becoming chief executive officer on July 1 it was making changes to its executive leadership team.
The reshuffle adds some leadership roles, divides the company’s Americas business and creates a new chief enterprise performance officer role. The changes are designed to strengthen the leadership team of BHP and are part of the long-term growth strategy, Craig said.
Leadership Changes
Jessica Farrell, VP innovation and the President of its Western Australia Nickel Assets, will take on a new role as President of North America from July 1. She is also going to be the interim President of South America until the successor can be appointed.
Current Chief Operating Officer Edgar Basto will step into the newly established position of Chief Enterprise Performance Officer on September 1. He will stay accountable for health, safety and security while driving operational performance throughout the company.
Rishton will also take on the role of head of Copper South Australia and president of Australia Geraldine Slatter will manage all BHP’s Australian operating assets under a single leadership structure.
CEO Transition
The executive changes come as Mike Henry is set to exit his post after more than six years as CEO. While in charge, BHP had tightened its portfolio further and increased its focus on energy transition-linked commodities.
Henry thanked employees, contractors and industry partners for their support in a farewell message on LinkedIn. But he said BHP had become “a safer and more productive company” that he was confident would go on to create even greater value under his successor, Brandon Craig.
