Apate.ai Takes AI Scam-Fighting Technology Global With Mobileum Deal

Australian scam intelligence startup Apate.ai is taking its AI-powered anti-fraud technology into global telecommunications markets through a new partnership with US-based telecom analytics company Mobileum.
Under the agreement, Apate’s conversational AI agents will be integrated with Mobileum’s Active Intelligence Platform and offered to communications service providers as Scam Intelligent Defense.
The system is designed to do more than simply block suspicious calls and messages. It diverts suspected scam traffic to AI agents that engage fraudsters in live conversations while collecting intelligence about their operations.
The intelligence can include phone numbers, malicious URLs, payment details, scam scripts and other information that helps identify wider criminal networks.
Turning Scammers into a Source of Intelligence
Apate’s approach is built around a simple idea. Instead of immediately cutting off every suspicious interaction, its AI bots keep scammers occupied and extract information from their conversations.
The company says its agents can engage fraudsters across voice, SMS, chat and email channels. Each interaction can reveal new tactics and infrastructure, creating a continuous stream of intelligence for fraud teams.
Mobileum says the technology can help communications providers identify emerging threats faster and strengthen their existing fraud prevention systems. Its Active Intelligence platform is used by more than 1,000 customers globally.
The partnership comes as scam operations become increasingly organised and AI-assisted. According to the Global Anti-Scam Alliance, scammers stole an estimated US$442 billion in 2025, with phone calls, text messages and emails among the main channels used to target victims.
Fresh Funding Supports International Expansion
The Mobileum deal follows Apate’s US$8.15 million seed funding round announced in late August. Lobby Capital led the oversubscribed round, with OIF Ventures, Investible, Concept Ventures and Baobab Ventures also participating.
The Sydney-founded company has since reincorporated in the US and plans to expand its presence across North America. It is also preparing to open a London office to support European customers, while its technology and research team continues to grow in Sydney.
For Apate, the Mobileum partnership could provide a much larger route into telecom networks. For carriers, it offers a way to turn suspicious traffic into actionable intelligence and potentially disrupt scam campaigns before they reach real customers.
