Protests in Indonesia have grown very strong, has hundreds of women and pink clothes and holding broomsticks, March towards the Parliament in Jakarta on Wednesday. The demonstration, which began over, rising living costs and government perks fellows have now moved into the second week. Many people were seen angry at reports of Police violence after the death of a young motorcycle taxi driver.

The current president flew to Beijing for China’s grand military parade, where he was photographed alongside the Chinese president and the Russian president. His decision to attend the event after suggesting that he was not going has added to the anger of many protesters. 

Women In Pink Take The Lead 

One of the most striking images of the protest was the presence of women from the Indonesian Women’s Alliance, which is a coalition of 90 groups, including women, organisations, human rights advocates, and indigenous communities. They were all dressed in pink and carrying broomsticks, said that the brooms symbolise that they wish to sweep away the dirt of the state and political oppression. 

Women carried out some sciences which demanded police reform and insisted that protests were not crimes but the democratic rights of people. According to the Indonesian women’s alliance, the colour pink stands for bravery. People on social media are calling the colours brave pink.

Human Rights Concern Rise  

The protests have already resulted in casualties. At least 10 people have died till now, and some allegedly due to police violence, and 1000 people have been taken to the hospital. Human rights groups have called for urgent action to stop the violence. The United Nations has also urged Indonesia to carry out transparent investigations into the allegations of police abuses. 

Anis Hidayah, chairperson of the national human rights commission, said the current situation is deeply worrying because of the limited space for citizens to voice their concerns peacefully. He also explained that all the protests are democratic rights authorities have made it hard for ordinary people to be heard.

Government Response 

President Prabovo has announced plans to cut some of the allowances enjoyed by members of the Parliament. This movie was appreciated by some protesters, but they believe that it is still not enough. Many people feel that the government needs to address some larger issues, such as inequality and lack of economic opportunity, along with poor policies for agriculture and education.
