Hipages Energy Service Offers Australians a Way to Save Big On Bills
The newly launched Hipages Energy is offering Australians a way to save big on their electricity bills this year. The aim of Hipages is to monitor household plans against other provider options and enable customers to automatically switch to cheaper plans.
According to Hipages Group chief executive Roby Sharon-Zipser,
“Energy providers don’t make it easy for you to find out if you are on the best tariff and the best plans.”
Additionally, while other providers might inform customers of cheaper plans available, those still require them to get on the phone and speak to someone. This new service makes the switch automatic.
Hipages energy allows Australians to access and share their energy data using Australian Open Energy Initiatives.
By Utilising Hipages, households could potentially save up to $250 per year on electric bills.
What the Research on Potential Savings Shows
According to research from the ACCC, families could save $238 a year if they could avoid the “loyalty tax” from their current provider.
They also announced that more than 80 per cent of households could get a cheaper plan if they looked around for another provider or reached out to their current one.
“If you haven’t changed electricity plans in the past 12 months, chances are you are paying more for your electricity than you need to,” ACCC Commissioner Anna Brakey said at the time.
The Hipages Energy service is available to all Australians. Furthermore, it would allow them to switch providers without being locked-in to contracts, Mr Sharon-Zipser said.
The Australian government has extended the energy rebate until the end of this year, which takes an additional $150 off electric bills.
Sharon-Zipser said customers of the Hipages service would still get the rebate. The service also guarantees that users will save 20 per cent on their electricity costs in the first year compared to the previous year.
“The guarantee that we’re putting together here, just to be clear, as well, is separate from the rebate. So you get that as well,” he said.
