Synopsis

Australian customers will pay up to 25% for Macs, iPads, HomePods and other Apple devices after the tech giant lifted prices amid rising chip and manufacturing costs.

Apple has raised the price of certain Mac, iPad, and HomePod products in Australia, up by as much as 25% for some of their devices, to cope with the continued global price rises for technology components.

The new pricing can now be seen on Apple's Australian site, although iPhone pricing is unchanged. Apple is increasing prices on devices like the MacBook Air, MacBook Pro, iPad Air, iPad Pro, HomePod, and some accessories.

The price hikes arrive after a sustained rise in memory and storage component prices driven by the surging demand for chips used in artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure.

Chapter one

Rising component costs reshape hardware pricing

When component prices increase, hardware pricing is affected. Advanced memory technologies including DRAM, NAND flash, and high-bandwidth memory (HBM) are rapidly gaining momentum, with industry analysts predicting massive growth in demand, particularly among data centers for AI purposes.

The latest TrendForce report on memory outlook places server memory as top priority in the memory supply landscape of today with decreased memory supply to consumer devices causing memory prices to increase in the memory industry.

In Australia consumers will now experience significant increases with MacBook Air prices going from A$1,799 to A$2,099 and the baseline MacBook Pro increasing to A$3,199, from A$2,699. IPad Air is now priced at A$1,199, jumping up from A$949.

IPad Pro increases to A$1,899 from A$1,599. HomePods and some of the company's accessories have also received a price adjustment.

Chapter two

Strong financial results before pricing update

Apple announced the following US$111.2 billion in revenue in fiscal second quarter 28 March 2026, an increase of 17% from last year.

The company’s net income was $26.6 billion and earnings per share increased by 22% to $2.01 on a diluted basis, showing sustained growth across its numerous hardware and services divisions.

Apple states it continued to absorb increased component costs for as long as it could before updating prices on their products for Australian consumers. The price increase is the result of extraordinary growth in the price of memory and storage, Apple explained, not due to updates to its products. Investment in AI remains to have an impact on electronics prices.

Electronic prices are being impacted by the AI investments being made by cloud vendors and tech companies in the global AI infrastructure market.

The price increases in the memory market follow the rising demand for AI servers, and experts are explaining how they affect memory for consumer device manufacturers. This appears to be one of the first markets Apple has increased prices on Macs and iPads throughout this period.

Price tags differ around the globe based on exchange rates, tax and other local factors, but Apple has yet to reveal price increases on other Mac or iPad models sold.
