Intel Raptor Lake Chips Crashing More Amid Europe’s Heatwave

While Europe struggles with sweltering summer temperatures, Intel Raptor Lake processors, particularly the 13th and 14th generations are experiencing a concerning surge of system crashes. According to Gabriele Svelto, a senior Mozilla engineer, there is a direct correlation between increasing regional temperatures and the number of Firefox browser crash reports associated with Intel systems.

The crash reports, as per Svelto, are significantly higher in nations that are facing heat waves right now. The trend is so dominant that Mozilla temporarily had to deactivate an automated crash bot since almost all reports were linked to these impacted Intel processors.

Core i7-14700K Appears to be the Worst Affected by Heat-Related Failures

Of the models affected, Intel Core i7-14700K is notably unreliable in heat. TechRadar and other sources report that this chip shows up more often than other chips in crash reports, which means it is under greater scrutiny regarding its heat endurance.

Svelto even claimed he could “see which EU countries were hot” depending on where the crashes originated. What he found is clearly stated: high temperatures are stressing these already-vulnerable chips to the breaking point.

Intel’s Fixes Haven’t Solved the Problem, Just Slowed It Down

Intel has attempted to resolve these problems through firmware patches, but fixes have failed to stand the test. In fact, the latest microcode patch of May 2025 appears to have worsened the situation by reintroducing bugs that were earlier brought under control.

The problem lies with how such chips control voltage. Intel has conceded that the processors operate at “high operating voltages” that will cause them to deteriorate over time, particularly when coupled with high temperatures. While Intel has added five years to warranties, that doesn’t repair chips already damaged from months of erratic performance.
