On Monday, China conducted an extensive military exercise that featured live, fire operations and showcased the fleet and planes flying around Taiwan. The exercise “Justice Mission 2025” intends to concentrate on encircling the island and preventing ships from reaching the main ports there. Since the massive drill by China in 2022, which was in response to the US selling weapons to Taiwan worth billions of dollars, this will be the sixth large-scale drill by China.

The military organisation responsible for that area of China stated that it mobilised its military forces to the north and to the southwest of “the water channel that distinguishes the two parties. They trained to fire at land targets and at sea vessels. These military training exercises are intended to continue on the second day, and the objective will include training to fully surround the island and close its main harbours.

A senior security official in Taiwan said that there were scores of Chinese military vessels and planes mobilised in the area around Taiwan. However, some of them were deliberately sailing along Taiwan’s shoreline, which is the line that marks the limits beyond its coastline. This is the sixth occurrence of a large-scale Chinese military drill following a top-level visit by a senior US official in the previous year, in 2022.

Taiwan Readies The Strongest Defence

The government of Taiwan was quite vocal against these military games taking place so near to its territory. In response to Taiwan’s government, the military office of the island displayed military equipment through a video. This included equipment in the form of rocket launchers from the United States. These rocket launchers have the capacity to fire their targets a long distance, including the mainland of China in the event of a conflict.

The Taiwan coast guard has also deployed their giant vessels in response to their Chinese counterparts’ presence near their territory. They are cooperating with their military to ensure that these drills do not end up disrupting their routes unnecessarily.

Taiwan has indicated that they need to ensure they carry out its daily business as much as possible, amidst this military pressure. The air control office for the island mentioned that China has reserved an area where no aircraft are allowed to fly while the live firing takes place. This takes place for ten hours. The personnel at the air control are currently looking for new routes where the aircraft can fly in order to circumnavigate the danger area.

According to Taiwan’s defence office, within the last day, two Chinese military aircraft and eleven naval ships were observed moving around the island. The island’s military forces remain highly alert and prepared to commence “quick response exercises.” The exercise is specifically designed so that the forces can respond very quickly if the Chinese government were to transform their practice drills into an actual assault.

A statement was issued by the office of defence, claiming that the entire armed forces personnel will remain vigilant, and will take concrete measures for the preservation of the principles of freedom and democracy. On the financial front, the stock market in Taiwan remained unaffected by the military operation and reached a new historical high at a slightly higher level.
