India Hits 2 Lakh Startups, Jobs Cross 21 Lakh

India's startup landscape has achieved a landmark. A year-end report by the Commerce and Industry Ministry on Wednesday, stated that the Startup India program has registered 2,01,335 startups by December 2025. These 21 lakhs plus direct employment opportunities have been made throughout the country by these 2,01,335 startups in India after the Startup India initiative in 2016.
50% of All Startups Include A Female Director

The invested amount has been instrumental in raising the production value to over Rs 17 lakh crore. It has also generated upwards of 12.3 lakh indirect employment opportunities. Exports, under these schemes have surpassed Rs 7.5 lakh crore. Major contributions were made by electronics, pharmaceuticals, telecom products, and food processing.
Maharashtra is Leading with 34,000 Startups
Maharashtra is home to 34,444 startups which makes it the leader in the country's startup ecosystem. These startups, in turn, have created over 3.76 lakh jobs. Other key startup centres include Karnataka and Delhi NCR. Nevertheless, the ecosystem has expanded to cover every state and union territory throughout the country. The government has employed funding methods to aid startups at various phases.
These encompass the Fund of Funds for Startups, Startup India Seed Fund Scheme and Credit Guarantee Scheme, for Startups. Then 34,400 startups have become part of the Government e-Marketplace. They have completed upwards of 4.8 lakh orders totalling Rs 47,500 crore. Over 16,000 patent applications have been submitted through the intellectual property procedures.
Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal told Parliament that 4,147 approved startups have received eligibility certificates under Section 80 IAC of the Income Tax Act. This concession allows for a tax holiday to be in place for three years on the profits derived from business operations that meet the qualifying criteria.
The crossing of the ₹2 lakh milestone is indicative of the growth of the startup ecosystem in India. At the time when the Startup India initiative was introduced in 2016, the number of certified startups was very low. The expansion can be viewed as a sign of how the ecosystem has extended throughout the nation.
India Crossed 21 Lakh Jobs
