Apple is expected to team up with Samsung Display for its first foldable iPhone, using Samsung’s crease-free screen instead of developing its own, according to tech analyst Ming-Chi Kuo. The move is aimed at making sure the phone is ready for a smooth launch in 2026.

Why Apple Chose Samsung

Samsung Display’s screen is special in that it does not have the usual crease most foldable phones have after long periods of use. The firm developed a unique metal plate system that distributes pressure when folding the screen so that the surface remains smooth. Samsung’s present foldables still exhibit slight creases, but the one for Apple will employ more sophisticated laser drilling to further improve the screen and make it more robust.

This indicates Apple’s ambition to create a foldable phone that not only performs well but also appears and feels high-end. Apple is opting for Samsung’s proven technology to ensure a sleek and efficient user experience, rather than introducing something new from the ground up.

Fine M-Tec to Deliver Main Components

A firm known as Fine M-Tec will provide more than 80% of the metal components required to produce the crease-free screen. These components will start shipping in early 2026, with the company planning to ship 13 to 15 million units during that year. The parts are more costly than normal due to the need to produce them through a high-precision laser drilling process. Fine M-Tec is also expanding its Vietnamese production capacity to meet Apple’s demand.

Production and Launch Plans

Apple will begin mass production of the foldable iPhone during the second half of 2026. The decision to use Samsung’s display instead of Apple’s in-house design stems from fears regarding how easily and consistently Apple might be able to produce the screen itself. By choosing a tried technology, Apple is adhering to its traditional formula: wait for the appropriate moment, control quality, and release.

Predicted Price and Market Hype

The foldable iPhone will reportedly run from $2,000 to $2,500. Even at its high cost, analysts predict that it will sell well due to Apple’s built reputation of quality. The new phone would also set a higher standard for foldable smartphones in general, which would encourage other brands to improve their screen technology.
