Trump Third Term

Not for the first time President Trump has reaffirmed his ambitions to possibly seek a third term as President of the United States. When questioned about NBC news he said he “was not joking” when asked if he was planning to seek a third term. When pushed on the limits of the 22nd Amendment restricting individuals to two terms, he claimed there were “methods” to circumnavigate this restriction

During the interview, President Trump addressed the idea of a third term, saying, “A lot of people want me to do it. But my thinking is, we have a long way to go”

However, the 22nd Amendment directly prohibits anyone from being elected to the presidency more than twice, stating, “No person shall be elected to the office of the president more than twice.”

Investor Confidence Under Pressure

Markets thrive on political stability and these comments have sparked concern amongst investors and analysts, particularly as Trump’s foreign economic policy and tariffs cause headaches for business’ and investors alike. A possible third term could cause further instability in a financial market already full of anxiety.

A recent CBS poll found that 64% of Americans were unsatisfied with the administration’s efforts to reduce rising costs. Reducing everyday costs was a huge element to the Trump campaign. This coupled with his ongoing trade wars particularly with China which has put a lot of pressure on the US supply chain has many Americans on edge regarding his comments about a Trump Third Term.

President Trump has frequently hinted at the idea of a third term during rallies and speeches, often framing it as a lighthearted remark that always delights and energises his supporters. However, in this recent interview, he signaled for the first time that he might be seriously considering it.

Critics often liken Trump to a wannabe king, his frequently expressed admiration for autocratic leaders have not helped this perception. His political tactics and governing strategies have frequently prompted constitutional experts and historians to label him as authoritarian. An attempt at a possible Trump Third Term would absolutely give credence to these long standing accusations.
