Breaking News - US President Donald Trump has given Russian President Vladimir Putin a shorter deadline to agree to Ukraine. He spoke at a press conference in Scotland on Monday and Trump said Russia has 10 to 12 days to stop the war in Ukraine. The President said there was no point in waiting any longer because there had been no progress in peace talks.

Two weeks ago, Trump had given Russia 50 days to reach a deal, but now he says time is almost up for them. If there is no ceasefire soon, the United States will place very heavy sanctions and new tariffs on Moscow.

Trump Warns of Sanctions If No Ukraine Peace Talks

Trump explained that the new tariffs would punish any country that continues to trade with Russia. He said the tariffs could be as high as 100% making goods too expensive to buy. He also said this would hurt the Russian economy and put more pressure on their President to end the war.

Trump spoke about his disappointment with Putin. He believed there was a chance for a ceasefire, but Russian missiles continue to hit Ukrainian cities almost every night, killing people.

“We were going to have a ceasefire and maybe peace.” Trump said, “All of a sudden, you have missiles flying into Kyiv and other places. Say I forgot it. I am not going to talk anymore. This has happened too many times, and I don’t like it.”

Ukraine War Continues As Deadline Nears

Trump’s comments came after a meeting with UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer in Scotland. He made it clear that he is "no longer interested in talks," unless there is an immediate change from Russia. Russia has not replied to its new deadline. With the deadline earlier this month, the Kremlin said it needed time to study the plan.

Ukraine welcomed Trump’s strong words. Andriy Yermak, who works for Ukraine, said Trump’s message “showed peace through strength.” But after more than three years of war, there is still no sign of a deal. Russia wants Ukraine to stay out of NATO to cut its army, but Ukraine says this is impossible.
