Elon Musk has claimed he will take a step back from his work in Washington as an advisor to President Donald Trump. This comes on the heels of the announcement that Tesla profits are down 71% when compared to the first three months of last year. Musk who has been spearheading DOGE (Department of Government Expenditure) where he has been leading the effort to cut government expenditure and jobs.
A Bleak Outlook
One of the two main factors analysts are citing for Tesla's poor financial performance are competition from Chinese EV manufacturers and domestic competition as other American auto companies expand their range of electric vehicles. The other reason has been the backlash against Musk and his political stances and involvement.
Tesla is still the most valuable automaker in the world as measured if you go by stock price, and it continues to sell far more electric vehicles in the United States than any of its competitors. However its share price has halved since December and its sales are down by 13 % when compared to last year.
Tesla's earnings fell significantly short of Wall Street's projections. The company managed to avoid losing hundreds of millions of dollars thanks to $400 million gained from interest on cash and investments, along with $595 million from selling credits to other automakers that did not comply with emissions standards, which Mr. Trump has vowed to abolish. Musk once claimed that Tesla profits would enter trillions of dollars, however at this present time that reality seems very far off.
