Marvel Will Roll Out New X-Men Cast Following ‘Secret Wars,’ Promises Kevin Feige
Marvel Studios is getting ready to bring back action on the screen once more. Studio head Kevin Feige says that fans will see a new roster of X-Men characters after Avengers: Secret Wars drops in 2027. Feige recently hinted that Marvel is setting up a “reset” of its film universe, not a complete reboot, but a new direction where classic roles such as Wolverine, Cyclops, and Storm will be recast.
Feige went on to say that Secret Wars will not be a stopping point, like Endgame was. Rather, it’ll be a turning point. Following that film, much of the previous 15 years’ worth of storylines will conclude, paving the way for a new era of characters and concepts.
Original X-Men Stars Will Return for a Final Appearance
Prior to the reboot, old-school fans will have one final opportunity to catch up with some familiar faces. Avengers: Doomsday, opening in 2026, is said to bring back most of the original X-Men film cast members. That means Patrick Stewart’s Professor X, Ian McKellen’s Magneto, James Marsden’s Cyclops, and several others from the early 2000s movies.
Feige explained that their return is done to respect the past and provide the characters with a befitting farewell. It also aligns with Marvel’s new concept of the multiverse, where parallel universes have different versions of the same character.
Big Heroes Like Iron Man and Captain America Could Get Recast Too
Feige didn’t leave it there with the X-Men. He also suggested that actors such as Iron Man and Captain America could be recast in future endeavours. Nothing is certain, but he noted that just as with James Bond or Batman, these characters can continue with new actors. “Downey and Evans were amazing,” Feige said, “but we don’t want to keep these characters stuck forever.”
On the subject of Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool and Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine, Feige was evasive, stating only that there’s still “more fun to be had.” That leaves the door open for at least a few more cameos by the fan-favorites. Overall, it seems Marvel is setting up for a grand transition, one that honors the past while moving toward something new.
