The development anticipated on this site includes, 850 permanent jobs for scientists, engineers and lab workers, 2,000 temporary jobs and more than 10 years to build the sprawling campus.
Navigating Tariffs and Market Competition
This announcement adds to an already crowded field. Eli Lilly just vaulted into the top ranks of the market for weight-loss treatments, closing a gap with its only real competitor, Novo Nordisk. Now, though, Novo Nordisk has just begun selling a new weight-loss pill that is already in high demand.
Lilly is also developing its own pill, but this week’s factory announcement suggests they’re still heavily invested in injectable “next-gen” treatments. Building in the U.S. helps the company sidestep any future “tariffs” or taxes placed on imported goods after recent agreements with the government to stabilise drug prices and keep production local, according to Solomon Amoako, president of Shepherdstown, West Virginia-based Procuresolve Manufacturing Solutions Corp., which advises health-care companies.
