Triomics has raised $22 million in a Series B funding round as healthcare providers face growing challenges managing cancer patient data, clinical trials, and reporting requirements.

The startup, established in 2021, creates oncology AI software that cancer facilities use to handle intricate medical records and aid clinical processes. Battery Ventures led the round, which also featured participation from existing investors Nexus Venture Partners, Lightspeed and Y Combinator.

The investment is the company's latest raise after the $15 million Series A investment in 2024.

Chapter two

Cancer systems face growing data burden

The funding comes amid a steady increase in global cancer cases.

The International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) of the World Health Organisation estimated that there were 20 million new cancer cases globally in 2022 and 9.7 million cancer deaths.

The agency's updated estimates project that the number of cancer cases could rise by 77% to 35 million annually by 2050.

The healthcare industry is also handling more patient data, with personalised cancer care and higher cancer survival rates. Pathology reports, imaging data, treatment histories, physician notes and genomic data can all be found in records.

03
Chapter three

Focus on clinical trials and reporting

Triomics has started off by creating software that aids the identification of patients who may be eligible for clinical trials in cases of cancer. Since then, the company has developed its platform to incorporate tools and patient records summarization to facilitate administrative workflows.

The platform is also used for cancer registry reporting, a requirement for many healthcare organizations. Its technology is used by institutions such as Yale Cancer Center and Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, the company says.

04
Chapter four

Customer growth before expansion

Medical records are often thousands of pages long, which Sarim Khan, the co-founder, said is a challenge for oncology teams in terms of administrative workload.

Triomics said its enterprise customer base has quadrupled over the last year and ARR is now ten times higher. The company did not report revenues.

The money comes at a time when cancer centers and hospitals are increasingly testing specialized artificial intelligence (AI) applications that are designed to manage the proliferation of clinical information that accompanies cancer care.
