Synopsis

Marvell Technology shares surged to record highs on Tuesday after Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang called the semiconductor company the next “trillion-dollar company” during Computex in Taipei. The rally pushed Marvell’s market value to around $234 billion and added more than $45 billion in market capitalisation. Investor optimism was also supported by Nvidia’s earlier $2 billion investment in the company and strong demand for AI infrastructure. Marvell recently forecast its custom AI chip business would generate more than $10 billion in revenue by fiscal 2029 as cloud companies continue expanding artificial intelligence data centres globally.

Jensen Huang called Marvell the next $1 trillion company and its shares increased to an all-time high.

Nvidia Investment and Exploding AI Growth

Nvidia announced a $2 million investment in Marvell as part of its plan to increase AI infrastructure partnerships earlier this year. The collaboration allows customers to pair Marvell's, custom AI chips with Nvidia’s networking technology and processor.

Marvell has gained significantly in the AI supply chain as its interconnect technologies aid in interconnecting thousands of processors that power state-of-the-art AI data centres. The soaring global demand for AI systems, in turn, has prompted renewed interest in semiconductor companies making chips specifically designed to accelerate data processing, typically priced and sold at a premium.

Marvell last week projected that revenue from its custom chips business would exceed $10 billion in fiscal 2029 as cloud companies keep ramping up AI data centre spending.

Semiconductor Stocks Continue to Rise due to a Booming AI Industry

Strong demand for AI-focused chips, networking and the entire semiconductor industry was driven by very fast adoption of one kind of artificial intelligence technology.

As more capital has been directed recently to a few stocks that are really related to AI infrastructure, Nvidia is one of the biggest winners from this trend. Huang's remarks also raised confidence Marvell could emerge as a longer-term player in the rapidly advancing AI market.
