Founders Fund turns tech elites into game show contestants
Synopsis
Founders Fund has launched the Founders Fund Mafia Series, featuring Sam Altman, Palmer Luckey and other technology leaders. The online show arrives weeks after the venture capital firm completed a record $6 billion fundraising round, expanding its public presence beyond traditional startup investing.
Founders Fund Mafia Series has landed and it’s already been met with enthusiasm from several of tech’s biggest founders, investors and executives, signaling an unusual step by one of Silicon Valley’s leading VC firms into the original media space.
The first episode, which dropped on June 4 on both YouTube and X, includes a guest lineup of OpenAI’s Sam Altman, Anduril’s founder Palmer Luckey, entrepreneur Bryan Johnson, Figma’s CEO Dylan Field and investor Cyan Banister and more of tech’s biggest names.
The episode is filmed at Tosca Cafe in San Francisco and centers around the social deduction game Mafia, in which players try to identify the hidden enemies through discussion and voting.
Mike Solana, a partner at Founders Fund, hosts the new show which will be releasing weekly episodes. Tech executives are not new to cultivating their followings through podcasts, newsletters and social media but with the Mafia Series the founders are placed in a competitive entertainment arena rather than a traditional interview setting.
The launch comes after Founders Fund successfully closed on its $6 billion growth fund, its largest capital raise ever, which came after its $4.6 billion growth vehicle raised in 2025, solidifying the VC firm's status as one of the largest investors in late-stage tech companies.
Founders Fund, which was co-founded by Peter Thiel and partners, has invested in companies like SpaceX, OpenAI, Stripe, Anduril, Palantir and Ramp. Many of these companies exist within markets that are garnering interest for their high potential such as artificial intelligence, defense tech and enterprise software.
For business users in the U.S. And Australia, this time is indicative of a shift in how VC firms and their execs engage with the general public, as PitchBook reports U.S. Venture market has remained at the top while Australian market continues to grow from increasing investments in software, AI and deep-tech.
Founders Fund Mafia Series offers a new public platform for tech's most visible individuals during a time where VCs are increasingly focusing on direct communication and digital media along with their investment activities.
