DroneShield could be one of the biggest success stories in defence ingenuity
Highly anticipated DroneShield became the headline of focus with yesterday afternoon's announcement from DroneShield (ASX:DRO), a new deal worth up to $24.9 million USD under The US Department of War Joint Interagency Task Force 401 program. Tuesday trading saw the stock up 3.55% to $3.21, after rising as high as $3.33 earlier in the session.
An initial contract value of $19.3 million and another $5.6 million in options over five years is included in the agreement, the company said. The new contract process builds on the company’s strong growth given that DroneShield last month revealed Q1 2026 revenue had reached $74.1 million (up 121% year-on-year) as part of an update in which it disclosed a total of $155 million in committed revenue for the whole year. It is also being greeted as another Australian deep-tech company going global on the back of a growing defence market.
Contract Includes Counter-Drone Systems and Supporting Services
Mobile and fixed-site counter-drone systems, including hardware, subscriptions, warranties and support services are part of the new C-UAS contract. The necessary hardware can be provided from existing future production capacity, DroneShield said.
The company also said that the contract will involve installation of its own systems and other third-party interoperable systems. The initial contract delivery is scheduled between 2H 2026 and 1H 2027. DroneShield anticipates at-least $10m from the revenue from its existing contract value in FY2024.
Investors are still Interested in Global Defence Demand
DroneShield stated that the USA Pentagon's JIATF-401 serves as the primary entity at the US Department of War responsible for synchronizing counter-drone activity across all military lines of operations and partner agencies. The organization assists new growth drone security features in reaction to raising threats from conventional systems.
The past decade has seen greater recognition of anti-drone capabilities and this contract is affirmation of that trend, said CEO Angus Bean. US President Ray Fitzgerald said, this agreement represents another strategic scaling point, reaching into the full spectrum of the United States defence market.
Despite Tuesday’s gains, over the past month, the stock is still down close to 11%. But the stock is still up nearly 150% in the last year as investors remain supportive of the company's global defence technology growth.
