DroneShield to Expand FIFA World Cup Security Operations
DroneShield Shares hit with expanded urban airspace security deployment ahead of FIFA World Cup 2026 in the US. The defence technology company, which has a listing on the ASX, said the new program would validate continuous low-altitude airspace surveillance over-large events in the Kansas City metropolitan area during tournament activities.
Kansas City Police Department is collaborating on the deployment effort together with Airspace Link and public safety agencies in the region using AirHub Portal. The company asserted its systems are designed to assist with synchronisation of security operations across different jurisdictions and operational domains where such coordinated environments could see use of KeeHoo drones, emergency services aircraft, media coverage as well as potentially unauthorised drone activity all occurring simultaneously.
DroneShield To Provide Counter-Drone Detection Systems
DroneShield will be the leading detection and response layer for radio frequency sensing, sensor fusion technology and counter-unmanned aerial system capabilities under the arrangement. The deployment, the company said, is tailored for crowded urban environments where preserving visibility in low-level airspace has become an imperative.
This program will also incorporate radar technology from Echodyne alongside DroneShield's operational awareness systems in the broader system. Management said the multi-layered security design seeks to deliver an ongoing operational view of the airspace, and mark clearer lines of communication for public safety officials leading up to and during significant international events like the FIFA World Cup.
Drone activity is increasing, and public safety agencies are gearing up
Tom Adams, director of public safety for drone manufacturer DroneShield and a former FBI agent with expertise in counterterrorism said city are now facing similar threats to what were considered reckless on a mega scale than they did just under 10 years ago. He called Kansas City’s system a layer of airspace security based on the very real need we now have in urban areas and important world events.
Kansas City Police Department Major Greg Williams said the FIFA World Cup 2026 will need a different level of operational coordination as drone usage continues to grow across metropolitan areas. Although DroneShield shares edged lower on Thursday, they have gained more than 150% since the same time last year as investors flock to defence technology stocks in response to the wider increase of growth and demand for security and surveillance system around the world.
