Synopsis

Airwallex has acquired Leapfin, a U.S.-based financial data platform focused on revenue accounting and reconciliation. The deal expands Airwallex's capabilities beyond payments and banking services, adding financial reporting tools as the company continues growing across Australia, the United States and other international business markets.

Airwallex has acquired U.S. Based financial data platform Leapfin, which adds revenue accounting and financial reconciliation technology to its operations as the Australia-founded fintech continues to branch out beyond payments and cross-border financial services.

Under the deal, announced June 5, Airwallex plans to roll Leapfin's software into its platform so businesses can automate their reporting, reconcile transaction data and recognise revenue across various systems. Deal terms were not disclosed.

The complexity of managing financial data has amplified over the last few years, driven by a rapid expansion of digital payments and cross-border transactions that have led companies operating in countries like the U.S. And Australia and elsewhere in the world to manage more payments across multiple payment providers, banks, and software systems, necessitating complex reconciliation and reporting processes.

Leapfin offers technology to transform large volumes of transaction data into accounting-ready records, which allows finance teams to reduce manual processes around month-end closing and revenue tracking.

The company said the acquisition will extend Airwallex's reach to more stages of the financial lifecycle by connecting payments, treasury, billing and reporting functions.

The acquisition follows its purchase of OpenPay in 2025, which brought its suite of subscription billing and revenue management tools to Airwallex.

The moves suggest a larger trend within the fintech industry where payments firms are increasingly moving into the financial operations software space in an attempt to cater to businesses looking for more consolidated technology platforms.

Airwallex is one of the fastest-growing tech companies in Australia, having raised $300 million in a Series F in May 2025 at a $6.2 billion valuation, reporting annualised revenues of $720 million, or 90% growth year-over-year, and over $130 billion in annualised payment volumes for the first time; at the time of the funding raise the company said it served over 150,000 businesses globally.

The deal will also beef up Airwallex's foothold in the U.S. Market, as businesses look for automation technologies to navigate payment and accounting complexities in the market. New features powered by Leapfin technology will be available to customers in the coming months, according to Airwallex.
