Trump says Anthropic does not present National Security Risk

In an interview made public on June 19, Trump changed his earlier assessment of a week ago, when his administration intervention on worries about unauthorized foreign access to Anthropic’s new advanced AI systems had brought on sharp scrutiny on the California tech startup.

The dispute had initially targeted Anthropic’s recently established AI Fable 5 and Mythos 5 which U.S. Officials felt may be accessible by foreign users and provide capabilities that would enhance U.S. Rivals’ military prowess.
White House policy efforts on the Matter As the U.S. Moved to take action against potential risk of foreign access to the tech, the San Francisco tech giant began limiting customer access to the models as it began negotiating with U.S. Federal officials.
"I met with the team. We're at a very high level meeting about the company," the president added, with the team that includes administration representatives and Anthropic representatives, Trump noted "they were the most intelligent, talented people." He concluded that “at this moment of time I think we resolve it."
The resolution is beneficial for Anthropic, which has one of the fastest-growing technology businesses, with a valuation of almost $4.8 billion at the end of last 2023 as a result of investments that include the U.S.-based Alphabet and Amazon.
Trump made the statement in relation to talks in which they engaged involving Dario Amodei, CEO of the AI startup. Earlier this week, Trump told reporters that negotiations involving Anthropic, which was previously labeled “concerning,” were now “going fine” following conversations that were held at the G7 summit in Italy, after the two leaders had met on June 14 and had “very excellent conversations”.

The Trump's reversal brings an end to a contentious dispute that had also highlighted the increasing divide among those advocating for and against stringent government regulation of powerful technologies.
