Jetstar to Charge Up to A$52 for Overhead Cabin Bags

From February, the Australian budget carrier will make passengers pay extra to store larger carry-on bags in overhead lockers, while one small item that fits under the seat will remain free
Starting in February, Jetstar will start charging customers who wish to keep their carry-on baggage in the overhead lockers. If it fits beneath the seat in front of them, travellers can still carry one small item for free, such as a laptop bag, handbag, or backpack.
There will be an extra cost for anyone bringing a larger cabin bag. The cost of each flight will vary from A$25 to A$52, depending on the itinerary.
The New Carry-On Choice
Priority Carry-on is available to travellers who choose to bring a larger bag. Priority boarding, overhead storage space, and the removal of the preceding 7 kilos are all included in this option.
According to Jetstar, the new regulations are comparable to those implemented by other low-cost airlines abroad, where passengers pay more for overhead locker space and the ticket price only covers a small under-seat bag.
Weighing luggage at the gate and looking for a locker space were two of the most annoying aspects of boarding, according to the airline's research with passengers and cabin crew, which led to the decision to alter the policy.
For many low-cost airlines, additional fees for baggage, seat preference, extra baggage, and priority boarding have grown to be a significant source of revenue. However, consumer organisations contend that the quoted rate may not always reflect the entire cost of a journey.
Chief executive Stephanie Tully said the modifications should speed up boarding and ensure that planes depart on schedule.
