Anthropic’s IPO Countdown Gets an AI Twist With New Model Plans

Anthropic new AI model plans are being discussed as the company looks to respond to the growing business use of OpenAI's GPT-6 Astra, according to three people familiar with the matter. Talks are ongoing as Anthropic works toward plans to go public.
The new AI model from Anthropic has not yet been made public, and there is no official release date. The business is weighing the safety evaluation of its subsequent model as well as the investment that they needed to fund its arrival in the market.
OpenAI Gains Enterprise Traction
Anthropic's new AI model discussions come as OpenAI's GPT-6 Astra model launched last September. Some 13% of enterprise AI spend tracked by Ramp went to Astra, compared with roughly 8% for Anthropic's Claude Fable.
The model has also been adopted by enterprises and developers for its potential uses. The development has prompted some potential Anthropic investors to rethink the competitive dynamics between the two enterprises in enterprise AI.
The new AI model's plans by Anthropic also come weeks after its CEO Dario Amodei called for a slowdown in the development of its AI models. Amodei wrote in an essay earlier this month that he "should like to see more time dedicated to the safety issues as the models are improved.
Revenue Climbs Before Potential IPO
By July's end, Anthropic's annualized revenue run rate was more than $65 billion—a jump from $47 billion in May, and roughly $9 billion at the end of 2025.
The company raised $65 billion in Series H funding in May, giving it a $965 billion post-money valuation, according to Anthropic. Earlier in the month, its run-rate revenue had reached $47 billion.
The rest of the market is heating up, too. Gartner projects that global spending on AI will reach $2.67 trillion with $28.27 billion allocated to generative AI models in 2026. Spending on AI models and platforms is forecast at $64.25 billion, up 63.4% from 2025.
For Anthropic, the new AI model decision is being weighed relative to model safety, development costs, profitability and preparations for a potential public listing. The IPO may be delayed until after the November U.S. middle-term elections, but there has been no official word yet.
